CAT NEUTER (castration) AND SPAY (ovariohysterectomy)

Tens of thousands of unwanted Cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens are enough to convince most of us to spay and neuter our pets but there are many other benefits as well.  Spay and neuters involve the removal of the internal reproductive organs.  These procedures keep the pet population healthy but decrease your pets’ risk of some cancers and infections of the reproductive tract.

This should be done at 4 to 6 months of age in most cats.  Tens of thousands of unwanted kittens and puppies are enough to convince most of us to spay our cats.

Castration is the removal of both testicles to prevent unwanted kittens, unwanted behavior (fighting, urine marking, roaming), testicular cancer, and prostate disease.  It will make your cat a more family-oriented pet, and give him a better chance for a long and healthy life by keeping him home, safe from catfight wounds and infections, being lost or stolen, car accidents, and so forth.

Ovariohysterectomy is the removal of the uterus and the both ovaries to prevent pregnancy, pyometra (a fatal infection of the uterus) and cancers of the reproductive tract.  If done before the first heat, it prevents most mammary cancers as well.  It also keeps your cat home more, so life is generally safer-fewer chances to get lost or stolen, fewer cat fights, fewer car accidents, and so forth.
