Like most intestinal parasites, hookworms are contracted through contaminated stool and soil, as well as being passed from mother to nursing to nursing puppies. Hookworms are a small parasite the fastens to the wall of the intestine and suck blood, they can quickly cause anemia. Hookworms may cause your dog to feel weak, vomit, have bloody diarrhea, and weight loss.
Hookworms are diagnosed by testing the stool and treating with a prescription dewormer. If you are currently treating your dog for hookworms be sure to clean up stool immediately and always was your hands since hookworms can be transmitted to people as well!
